What makes you happy?

Brother: ” Did you know that you laugh in your sleep? It was either you were dreaming of something funny or you are just really happy.”

Me: “I have a roof over my head, I have a great brother and I love what I do. Aren’t you happy?”

Brother:  (silence)

I would like to ask you this question: “What makes you happy?”

To get to where I am today, I  worked and studied 7 days a week since I was 14 years of age. Did I have an easy life? no. Was I working myself to the bone? yes. Did I have time to sit down to enjoy my breakfast, lunch and dinner? no. Was working 7 days a week for 14 years worth it? yes.

I wouldn’t have established LMH to what it is today if I didn’t push myself to the limits during my late teens and early twenties. I wouldn’t recommend my lifestyle of only 4-6 hours of sleep during the first ten years of building the business to anyone.  I always tell my students that if they want to be successful, they must set aside ten years of working 7 days in their chosen profession. It is similar to the 10,000 hour rule -it took me 10 years of teaching 3 or more hours a day (7 days a week) over a ten year period in order to be confident teaching students of all ages and levels. The teaching experience I have gained over the 14 years has helped me to create all the LMH Publications. So what makes Lina happy? being alive, food, sleep, music, family and a roof over my head. Everything else I have is a bonus!

My ‘Car Office’

I create multiple office spaces that suit my lifestyle. This helps me to be more productive on the go and can give me more time to enjoy the finer things in life. I spend around 20-30 hours travelling around Melbourne every week, so it is important to manage my time well in order to live a happy and healthy balanced lifestyle between my career and life.

I have struggled with work life balance most of my working life. My work hours are now 9am – 10pm Monday to Thursday and half days on Friday and Saturday. I now prioritise my health over work, by making time to sit down and enjoy my breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as gyming two times a week.

Still don’t know what makes you happy? Melbourne has been voted the most liveable city three years in a row and has recently been voted to have the best coffee in the world. We are living in a vibrant city of fine shopping, restaurants, arts and culture, and that is something to be happy about.
