How I prepared for the 2015 Springvale Lunar New Year Festival

My friend MT Tsoi is passionate about politics and is a talented Chinese public speaker who also lectures Finance at Monash University. When I was offered the opportunity to MC in English and Chinese, I called MT to teach me how to talk formal Chinese. Being an Australian born Chinese, I can speak informally in Chinese and can read Australian standard VCE level Chinese, however MC-ing in front of our politicians and local Asian community is something I was not ready for yet.

My friend MT Tsoi is very supportive of my career. I am grateful to have a friend like him who compliments my weakness. If I am able to successfully convince the audience and viewers that I can MC professional in Chinese and English, then a lot of credit goes to him for the Chinese component.

After MT Tsoi helped me translate the run down into Chinese, it was time to type up a script and practise it while at the gym.  Multi tasking is apart of my every day life.

The week leading up to the event is the most stressful. Many changes and updates to the run down,  lots of rules and regulations to follow and many things to mention in between performances. Nevertheless, I have learnt so much from the event management team on how to organise a  large community event like this.

Lots of paper work to go through and familiarise with before the show. I may only be doing a 6 hour show, but I have spent at least a month mentally preparing for this show.

On a final note, thank you for all the support so far in my music teaching and performance career. I hope you can come support our local talented performers this weekend at the 2015 Springvale Lunar New Year Festival! xoxo Lina
