I would like to share with you my second original song I wrote in 2013 called the ‘Game of Life’. This song is dedicated to my mother and father. My parents did not know English and worked very hard to give me the best well-rounded education they could afford. In an Alumni newsletter article in 2013, Lina speaks about how she managed to build one of Australia’s leading music schools (Lina’s Music House), after becoming the sole carer of her 13 year old brother at 15 years of age only.

Game of Life – Piano and lyrics by Lina Chan Verse 1
I’ve always been this happy girl you see today,
Even when life doesn’t go my way.
There are times when I wanna curl up and hide,
From everyone and everything outside.
I wonder what it would be like if I could turn back the time,
But I know it’s never going to happen this life time.
Verse 2
When I was young my mum and dad was all I need.
My world was perfect, I had everything.
Why must life have to be so cruel and end it all?
What did I do wrong to lose it al!.
CHORUS
In this game of life, there is no rewind,
You have to be strong inside
It’s not a game you can pause and erase,
You can only learn from your mistakes.
Verse 3
And from that day on it was only two of us.
So we worked hard and didn’t ever give up.
There were times when we didn’t know where we belong.
We helped each other so we could stay strong.
Verse 4
Our future looked so dark we didn’t know what to do.
No one was willing to take care of us two.
You just have to be strong and you will survive.
Just believe in yourself, and it’ll be alright.
BRIDGE
Now I am here today, I’m singing in front of you…
I have survived the darkest times, I’ve been through.
This game of life is just so hard, you’re not alone
Follow your dreams, work hard and you will be known…
CHORUS
In this game of life, there is no rewind
You have to be strong inside
It’s not a game you can pause and erase,
You can only learn from your mistakes.

Public speaking is one of major weaknesses and I feel grateful that Tom Huynh (The president of the Springvale Asian Business Association) offered me this opportunity to develop my public speaking skills, even when I was inexperienced and not ready. I still have lots of room for improvement and hope to break out of my shell and be a confident, natural and charismatic Chinese and English MC in future. The Springvale Lunar New Year Festival is professionally recorded and broadcasted on Channel 31.

One of the most famous actor and singers in Hong Kong and China, Raymond Lam (Middle back row in photo) had his first ever concert in Melbourne on March 24th, 2012. Thanks to my brother Johnny and his friend Vanessa, I was able to meet Raymond Lam a few hours after his Melbourne concert at 2am on my birthday (March 25th), a few hours before his flight back to Hong Kong. He said “Happy Birthday” to me in person and we had a short conversation. It was the best present ever! At that moment, I felt invincible and that anything is possible, as long as I keep working hard towards achieving my dreams. There will definitely be ‘surprises’ in life to make you feel that it is all worth it. Life is full of surprises – good and bad. Christmas Party with my Chinese (Mandarin tutor) Yanie in 2013. I completed VCE Chinese (Mandarin) in 2002 and the standard for Chinese as a second language is very low. I hope to speak and MC in Mandarin professionally one day. I love self improvement! A beautiful drawing of me from my good friend David Nguyen, who is a VCE English teacher at Braybrook College. He has his own youtube channel about archery. You can check it out on this link: https://www.youtube.com/user/NUSensei David is a very multi talented man !
